Why April Is Bali's Secret Best Month (And Everyone Else Is Booking July)

April in Bali is the month the travel industry does not want you to know about. The rain has stopped. The dry season is just beginning. The crowds that descend in July and August are still three months away. Prices are lower. Availability is better. The rice fields are at their greenest. And nobody is writing about it because there is no marketing budget behind shoulder season.

Here is what April in Bali actually looks like in 2026 — and why it might be the smartest time to book a villa in Canggu.

The Weather Is Genuinely Excellent

April marks the transition from wet to dry season. By mid-April, the daily downpours of February and March have tapered to occasional afternoon showers that last twenty minutes and leave the air feeling cleaner. Temperatures sit around 27–31°C. Humidity is dropping. The mornings are warm without being oppressive.

Crucially, everything is green. The rice terraces around Canggu and up toward Ubud are at their most photogenic in April, fed by the wet season but lit by the returning sun. By July, they start to yellow. April catches them at their peak.

Prices Are Shoulder Season — Your Wallet Notices

Villa rates in April typically run 20–30% lower than July and August. Flights from Europe and Australia are cheaper. Restaurants are not yet in peak-season mode, so you do not need to book a week ahead for a decent dinner. Even surf lessons are easier to book.

A three-bedroom private villa in Canggu with a pool, daily housekeeping, and concierge service can cost $250–350 per night in April. That same villa in August? $400–500. Split between six guests, April works out to roughly $40–60 per person per night for a luxury stay. That is less than a mid-range hotel room.

April is when Bali belongs to the people who actually pay attention. The weather is perfect, the prices are fair, and you can get a table anywhere.

Easter in Bali: The Villa Alternative

Easter falls in April most years, and it is increasingly popular as a Bali travel window — especially for families and groups from Australia and the UK using the school break. A private villa handles Easter groups better than a hotel: communal breakfasts around a big kitchen island, kids in the pool all morning, nobody policing your checkout time.

At Villa Zoya, the double-height living room and eight-seater kitchen island were designed for exactly this kind of gathering. At Nomad House, the concrete-and-glass architecture gives everyone enough space to find their own corner without ever feeling disconnected from the group.

What to Actually Do in Canggu in April

April is the beginning of Bali's best surf season. The swells start to pick up from the southwest, and Batu Bolong, Echo Beach, and Berawa all start firing. If you have never surfed before, April's early-season waves are more forgiving than the June-to-August walls.

The Canggu café scene is in full swing by April without the queues. Sunset sessions at beach clubs are less frantic. Day trips to Ubud, Nusa Penida, or the Jatiluwih rice terraces are easier to organise because drivers and guides are not yet fully booked. And the yoga studios and wellness retreats around Canggu have availability that disappears by June.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it still rain in Bali in April?

Occasionally, yes. Expect short afternoon showers, especially in early April. By mid-to-late April, rain becomes rare. It should not affect your plans — and the showers keep temperatures comfortable.

Is April a good time for surfing in Canggu?

Yes. April marks the start of the main surf season on Bali's west coast. Swells are building but not yet at their July peak, making it ideal for beginners and intermediate surfers. Batu Bolong and Berawa are both reliable in April.

How much cheaper is Bali in April compared to peak season?

Expect to save 20–30% on villa rates, 15–25% on flights from major hubs, and noticeably less on day-to-day spending (restaurants, drivers, activities). The quality of experience is identical — the price just reflects lower demand.
